Empty swimming pool with blue lounge chairs, a pool cover structure, a fence, and a scenic rural landscape with trees and hills in the background.

Thresholds

Every photo contains a world within. Thresholds was an early morning moment of serendipity during a difficult period of my life. It was the second morning of a friend’s birthday weekend and I was struggling — crushed under the weight of depression but hoping for something better for myself. This scene by the pool — with its empty chairs and abandoned yellow pool tube — felt exactly like my own mental-state. It is a photograph of the borderland between places, where a landscape is more than a background and the smallest of moments can hold an entire world.
